Nobelian Roads to Peace
Alfred Nobel's will of 27 November 1885 stipulated that the Peace Prize was to be awarded to the person who had done the most to create fraternity between nations, reduce or abolish standing armies or organise peace congresses. Since 1901 the Norwegian Nobel Committee has interpreted the will in ways which have broadened the concept of peace and strengthened the status of the prize.
